Dog's mercury is a very useful indicator for ash dominated ancient woodland sites......but there were a large number of other species on this site as well, many of which pick up subtle changes in drainage, fertility and soil types, with different tree species being better suited to different areas. Interpreting such flora is a skill which requires many years of experience and application.
