This is a series of ancient woodland sites to the west of Perth. This site is now completely dominated by sycamore, with very few native tree remnants remaining. However, the ground flora here is excellent, and suggests that this site and several others we seen are well worth restoring. Having ancient woodland sites in a lowland situation like this is unusual, and it was a delight to find something this interesting. I was accompanied by Rick Worrell who has a tremendous range of experience of native woodland management and is drawing up PAWS restoration plans on this area for us. Rick's skills at identifying ancient woodland indicator plants are excellent, and are at a level that most of us could never really aspire to. A very enjoyable day out.
