Hazel is a native shrub, common and widespread in Highland Perthshire as many of the native woods here are on relatively fertile ground. It grows fast, has a good autumn colour and produces hazelnuts.....good for wildlife and people!! Hazel coppices well. The site planted here will almost certainly be flooded by the Tay from time to time, but hazel is a versatile shrub and should be able to deal with that all right.
