Whenever the ants are disturbed enough that they feel under threat (e.g. being sat on) they immediately get ready to evacuate the nest. First of all they move the nursery, as the babies (grubs) are their most precious possessions. Once these ants realised the threat was over they started returning. The whole thing was at high speed and happened in seconds.
